Located just 20 kilometers southeast of Istanbul, Princes’ Islands were once the place of exile for unruly Byzantine princes. Now a day trip to Princes’ Islands is popular among both locals and tourists looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
Horse-drawn carriages and bicycles replace motorized vehicles on this oasis of peace. There are a total of nine islands creating up the Adalar; however, solely four are open to the general public.
When you arrive at Büyük Ada, the biggest and most famous of the Prince's Islands, enjoy a guided walking tour through the streets that are decorated with beautiful wooden houses. Afterward, relish lunch at a neighborhood seafood restaurant, which has fantastic views of Istanbul’s shores, before enjoying some free time to explore the island. In the afternoon you can make your way around either by renting a motorbike, searching around the local stores, or get on a phaeton, a horse-drawn carriage, take a tour, and enjoy the slower pace of life here.
