How Enriched Uranium is Made ☢️
Uranium starts as ore extracted from mines. Once mined, it’s crushed and processed into a concentrated form called yellowcake (U3O8). This is then converted into uranium hexafluoride (UF6), a gas used for enrichment.
Enrichment increases the percentage of U-235, the isotope needed for nuclear reactors. This is achieved using methods like gas centrifuges, which separate U-235 from the heavier U-238. After enrichment, the uranium is shaped into fuel rods for reactors.
From mines to reactors, enriched uranium powers the world’s nuclear energy.
