On August 13, 1480, when Ottoman soldiers invaded Otranto, the commander ordered them to renounce their faith and convert to Islam. The 800 men, led by Antonio Primaldo, said they preferred one thousand times over, to die, rather than renounce Jesus, the Son of God. They were executed. .
