Why do we need a flu shot every year, isn’t one enough? This is a question millions of people ask everyday, yet the answer seems to not be widely known. Year round, researchers and scientists at hospitals around the world collect samples from flu patients and send them to top experts in the field of virology with one goal in mind, designing a vaccine for the next flu season. Vaccines for mumps and rubella offer lifetime protection; what makes the flu so special? Dig into the research on the science of flu viruses and what makes them unique from other diseases.
