On April 14, State Senator Rob Hogg managed the unanimous Senate confirmations of three nominees to the State Judicial Nominating Commission. This panel selects candidates for open Iowa judgeships.
After reviewing applicants, the panel sends the list of three most qualified to be judges to the governor. If the governor fails to make an appointment from the list within 30 days, the chief justice of the Iowa Supreme court may make the appointment from the same list provided to the governor.
Helen Sinclair, Steve Sukup, and Dr. Christina Taylor were nominated by Iowa Republican Governor Terry Branstad and all were confirmed by the Senate by three separate votes of 46-0.
