When it comes to suffering and pain, spiritual care providers, better known as chaplains, are there to help. VA chaplains start their work by taking an oath: Firstly, to nurture and support the men and women they work with, whether they’re veterans or on active duty. Second, take care of them if they are sick. Lastly, to honor them at the end of their lives.
Chaplains aren’t there to preach but to be with veterans and bring them comfort during their most difficult moments. To bring hope. It’s a tough job, but a rewarding one. Watch the video above to learn more about the role of spiritual care providers in the VA healthcare system, including firsthand accounts from some of the Los Angeles VA’s longest-serving chaplains.
