Every year, AFFACTION INDIA organizes and implements a month long Animal Birth Control & Vaccination (ABCV) Project. In 2017 and 2018 at the Doeguling Tibetan Refugee Settlement in Mundgod, Karnataka and at the Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement in 2017. The AFFACTION INDIA team set-up the Project clinic at the Drepung Loseling Monastery Farm. During the ABCV Project, surgeries are performed, vaccinations are administered (against rabies, leptospirosis, distemper, hepatitis, parvo virus, parainfluenza) and street dogs with tumors, injuries, maggots, ticks, etc. are successfully treated. Apart from street dogs; owner dogs, buffaloes and cats are also treated.
The street dogs are caught in a humane manner. This is done at dawn and the dogs are then transported in cages by van to the Project clinic for ABC surgery, vaccinations and treatment. Upon recovery, the dogs were brought back and released in the same place they were picked up from.
We are grateful for the selfless help by volunteer monks from Drepung Monastery, Tashi Gomang Monastery, Ganden Jangtse Monastery, Ganden Shartse Monastery, Rato Monastery, Kagyu Monastery, Sera Jhe Monastery, nuns from Jangchup Choeling Nunnery and lay people of the community during the project.
Animal Five Freedoms Action India (AFFACTION INDIA), an animal welfare NGO registered in India that cares for street dogs and animals that have been abandoned, injured or sick. The organization strives to provide each animal in our care with the *Five Freedoms (the five aspects of animal welfare that we as human beings owe to animals in our care):
1. Freedom from hunger or thirst: by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.
2. Freedom from discomfort: by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease: by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
4. Freedom to express (most) normal behaviour: by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.
5. Freedom from fear and distress: by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.
AFFACTION INDIA is blessed to have the presence of His Eminence Professor Samdhong Rinpoche as the Chief Patron, has great love for animals especially dogs. He is the former Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile based in Dharamsala, India.
*Five Freedoms were developed and formalized by the UK Farm Animal Welfare Council in 1979.
