Here at home, South Africa's long-awaited COVID-19 vaccination programme kicked off in Khayelitsha outside Cape Town today. Now COVAX, which is led by the World Health Organization, Gavi the Vaccine Alliance and The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, is expected to ship about 90 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to the African continent this month. This will see the continent embark on the largest ever mass vaccination campaign.
To talk us through where the continent is when it comes to its vaccination program, we were joined via Skype by the Coordinator of Immunization and Vaccine Development Programme at the WHO Regional office for Africa, Dr Richard Mihigo.
