James Buzzy Potter is an adult male Gould's Wattled Bat who was flying around the kitchen of a suburban home. The kids noticed him first, naturally.
The MOP is a bat counter for the local flying-fox colony; the home looks over the valley where the colony is situated.
She wasn't sure what to do and was going to shoo him out with a towel, but fortunately called for advice.
James Buzzy Potter (named by the children), is doing fine in care; he's gone to the microbat flight aviary in the southern highlands, and if he does OK, he may be released in a a week or so. I hope to be able to let him go soon and watch him fly off. I think the kids and the MOP would enjoy this as well.
Sometimes bats are just inconveniently located and not injured at all, but you can't tell if they're OK until they've shown they are eating and doing all the normal things, and being able to fly.
