---------------
On March 2nd 2011, Shahbaz Bhatti, the first Christian ever to be part of the Pakistani government was shot dead in Islamabad. He had been calling for changes to the controversial blasphemy laws which can impose the death penalty. In an interview he declared: "... and I want to share that I believe in Jesus Christ who gave his own life for us. I know the meaning of the cross and I'm following the cross."
His brother, Paul Bhatti, Special Adviser for the Religious Minorities to the Pakistani prime minister and president of the All Pakistan Minorities' Alliance, will continue his work in defence of the religious minorities. Paul Bhatti has received more than a few such "warnings", but he has never thought of abandoning the Christians of Pakistan. "To run away now would mean an end to the mission of Shahbaz -- a cause to which he dedicated his entire life and for which he was killed. Moreover, it would mean leaving my country, which I love dearly." Following the "martyrdom" of his brother, Paul decided to leave Italy, where he had been living for some years, in order to carry on the legacy of the murdered Minorities Minister.
