🫐💙🫐If it's your first time growing blueberries, or you'd like to someday soon, read on.
Since I live in Northern California where my winters are mild, I need to choose blueberry varieties that have low chill hours. I have four varieties that are of the southern high bush type: O'Neale, Sunshine Blue, Biloxi, and Sharp Blue. I also have one self pollinating rabbiteye variety called Pink Lemonade.
Here are my 4 BEST TIPS for the newbie blueberry grower:
1. Choose varieties that grow well in your climate, chill hours are important
2. Choose more than one variety of the same type. The Harvest will be more abundant. For example, I have four different southern high bush type blueberries.
3. Blueberries love acid soil, pH between 4.5 to 5.5 - no compromises
4. Blueberries love evenly moist soil at all times- the roots are very shallow
BONUS TIP:When fruits start to form, cover with bird netting, or you will just be feeding the birds and not yourself!🫐💙🫐
