Platform engineering is the next iteration of DevOps, building on the concepts of collaboration, automation, and continuous delivery. It's about creating an internal developer platform that provides the tools and services developers need to build and deploy software quickly and reliably. This platform allows developers to focus on writing code rather than worrying about infrastructure, making it easier for them to iterate quickly and deliver software faster.

An internal developer platform is a set of tools, services, and processes that enable developers to build, test, and deploy their code quickly and efficiently. It provides a self-service model where developers can easily provision resources such as compute, storage, and networking without having to go through a central IT team.
