When they are young, it is difficult to determine the gender. The gender will be determined when the giant gourami crosses 2.5 years of age or minimum 12 inch / 1 feet in length.

Male Gouramis are usually a bit smaller than the females and they are slimmer in overall girth.

The dorsal (top) fin is the most distinctive difference that can be seen between males and females.
The dorsal fin of the female is short and rounded, while the male has a longer and pointed dorsal fin that comes to a point
3. Hump on Forehead
Adult males will have a hump or swelling on the forehead when mature.
4. Bulgy Lip
The other big difference is that the females have thicker or bulging lips . The males have thinner lips than females or pointier lips.
5.Belly shape
Females have a rounded belly compared to the males.
