In this lecture, Professor Esther Eidinow (University of Bristol) talks about the institution of the oracle in the ancient world, focusing in particular on: (i) what an oracle was; (ii) where oracular sanctuaries be found; (iii) how oracles worked; and (iv) how long oracular sanctuaries were in operation for.
