Ashley Theron spoke to Jon Hov Lauritzen, Senior Vice President at Statnett, about Asia’s energy transition, and the challenges the continent faces as sustainable energy claims its place in the race to climate neutrality.
Jon noted the challenge of going from small-scale fossil-fuel generation to widespread renewables adoption for utilities, where generation needs to match consumption to build security of supply. Electricity underpins growth and wealth-generation in the economy of any country, and only once energy has been secured can the economic benefits be both seen, and realised.
Similarly, even the highly-advanced countries that form part of the Nordic region are looking to secure both sufficient, and cheap renewable energy in order to further the transition and realise the benefits.
