So even though the whole COVID pandemic is still going strong - I am still training full speed for the autumn snowboard expedition to Cho Oyu. This will be 1/3 part of a training trilogy, two remaining parts will be out later in the spring/summer. In this phase of my training plan I am concentrating on basic fitness and strenght.
Disclaimer: I am NOT a professional in physics nor am I a coach or specialist in training - please do not take my schedule as something that suits your needs directly.
If I have learned something from my previous expeditions it is that I need to be prepared physically. I have trained with the basics of Training for New Alpinism concept by Johnston and House and have then pimped the program to my own needs to some extent to suit my needs, I trained with the same plan for Manaslu back in 2019. I can highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a more structured way of training for alpinism/mountaineering. In this vlog, I am showing a week of training especially from the perspective of a normal amateur that needs to work full time and does not have an endless amount of time to train.
Regarding heart rate zones: I frequently do a test where my VO2max, anaerobic and aerobic thresholds, hence I am rather aware of how training has an effect on my body an performance. There are multiple ways how heart rate zones are expressed so be sure that you understand what system you are looking or using, I use the ones described in the TFNA program.
