Updated sketchbook tour as we move on from Portugal to Spain.
I referred to the small photos as a Sprocket camera but is a HP Sprocket printer not camera. It is small, inkless and prints on stickers the size you see in my sketchbook. The printer paper has the ink embedded.
The day I sketched in the Iguana cafe I hadn’t decided what view I was going to draw, I was contemplating it as I had my first sip of sangria and it spilt on my page so that was a sign that I should paint the sangria and charcuterie board.
You’ll see me use the borders sometimes on pages for different reasons. On that page it felt a little empty but I didn’t want to add text so the border filled a little of the space and ties the photo in - (if they’d had a business card with their logo I’d have used that instead of the photo).
On some other pages borders separate different elements on a page and sometimes I’ll link the elements by breaking the border with that drawing exiting a side or another drawing impinging on the box next to or above it.
If you want to learn more about travel sketching don’t forget to check out my upcoming workshop to Lord Howe Island for next March.
