Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their roles as Falcon and Winter Soldier, respectively, from the film series. Daniel Brühl, Emily VanCamp, and Wyatt Russell also star. Marvel Studios is developing a number of limited series for Disney+, centered on supporting characters from the MCU films. The series was officially confirmed in April 2019 along with Mackie and Stan's involvement.

Although the first Star Wars live action TV series, The Mandalorian, has been first up with the launch of Disney's own streaming service, Disney+, the plan is to give "second tier" characters from various Marvel and Avengers movies their own series in the coming years.

The first report about this initiative indicated that a Loki series would be top priority, and that a Scarlet Witch and Vision series, entitled WandaVision, was also in the pipeline, but the Falcon and Winter Soldier project has turned out to be the frontrunner.

Mackie's Falcon took up the mantle of Captain America in Endgame, when Steve Rogers retired his duties and his shield to return to the '50s and his beloved Peggy Carter. This now leaves Rogers' former comrade in the iconic role of The Captain.

Opening up about his new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor recently admitted that the transition from Falcon to Captain America has been "very emotional".


The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is an upcoming American web television miniseries created for Disney+ based on the Marvel Comics characters Sam Wilson / Falcon and Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier.
