(31 Mar 2020) The Chinese city of Wuhan, which was once at the centre of the coronavirus outbreak, slowly began returning to normal on Tuesday.
Its people re-emerged from their homes ready to shop and resume work duties as China reported just one new death and 48 new cases of the virus.
Shopkeepers in Wuhan were limiting the number of people they were letting in, dispensing hand sanitizer and checking customers for signs of fever.
Along Yanzhi Road, a street full of old residential compounds, most of the food stores were greeting customers.
People queuing outside a food mall still maintained a distance of about 1.5 meters - among them 75-year old Wang Haitao.
This is Wang's first day shopping outside, mainly for vegetables as during the past two months in lockdown, he and his wife had food delivered to their home.
In addition to fresh food, residents have more choice in delis that serve cooked chicken or pork.
For some residential areas with more strict lockdown measures, vegetable deliveries continue.
Outside a market, volunteers in red waistcoats were carrying dozens of bags of vegetables to carts.
Deliveries of items purchased online is also resuming.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.
For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could lead to death.
