After an hours-long, "very thorough sweep" of Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Air Force officials say a husband and wife security team found a man who had entered the installation illegally hiding in a dumpster.
The base put out the first warning that authorities were searching for a possibly-armed suspect shortly after 12:30 p.m. and asked people to shelter in place.
D.C. Police said they were investigating reports of shots fired near the base, in the 3800 block of Halley Terrace SE, around 12:04 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, no victim was found. But they believe someone involved in that shooting may be the person who fled onto the base.
