Komodo dragons are the largest living lizards in the world, growing up to 10 feet (3 meters) long and weighing more than 150 pounds (70 kilograms). They are apex predators with a powerful bite, but what makes them even more fascinating is their venom. Their saliva contains toxic proteins that lower blood pressure, prevent clotting, and cause shock in their prey. Once bitten, the prey often succumbs quickly, allowing the Komodo dragon to track it down and consume it.
These incredible reptiles are native to a few Indonesian islands, including Komodo, Rinca, and Flores!
