The Delhi government has warned people who have returned to their homes on the banks of the Yamuna river to stay alert and be prepared to evacuate again if necessary. The water level in the Yamuna has been receding in the past several days, and many people who were displaced by the floods have returned home. However, due to more rains in the hills, the flow of water in the Yamuna has increased again. At Hathnikund barrage, the flow increased to 2.5 lakh cusecs on July 22. Both the canals that divert part of the Yamuna waters have been shut and all water directed towards the main river stream. This is expected to increase the water level in the Yamuna in Delhi.
