Indonesia's East Java -- the second most populous province -- has been touted as a key battleground in the lead-up to the presidential election on 14 Feb. Candidates who secured the most votes in East Java have gone on to become president since direct elections began in 2004. Islamic boarding schools, or "pesantren", are likely to play a big role in who wins in East Java. There are more than 6,700 pesantren in East Java and the majority of them are affiliated to Nahdlatul Ulama -- the largest Muslim organisation in Indonesia. Saifulbahri Ismail reports.
