All 17 Accused, Including Raja and Kanimozhi, Acquitted; Judge Says Prosecution Failed to Prove Guilt Beyond 'Reasonable doubt'
G SPECTRUM SCAM VERDICT LIVE UPDATES: All accused in the 2G spectrum scam case, including former telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi, have been acquitted by a special CBI court. Special CBI judge OP Saini said the prosecution has failed to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Former UPA ministers are now training their guns on former CAG Vinod Rai, who had pegged the loss to the exchequer at Rs 1.76 lakh crore. "I had always maintained that this was no scam. It was a scam by former CAG Vinod Rai. We stand vindicated," Kapil Sibal tells News18. Sibal had succeeded A Raja as the telecom minister and claimed that the spectrum allocation had caused 'zero loss'. Manish Tewari says Vinod Rai should apologise to the nation. The trial in 2G spectrum scam started six years ago in 2011 after the court had framed charges against 17 accused in the CBI case for offences that entailed punishment ranging from six months to life imprisonment.Leaving aside second-line DMK leaders, some alliance leaders like VCK's Thol Thirumavalavan, among others, have sought investigations and cases against all those involved in 'foisting' the case, holding the accused in jail without bail, all in a case where there possibly was no evidence at any point in time, only because of which judge Saini could dismiss the prosecution argument, outright -- at least in the 'order' part of his judgment.
