You would be very lucky if you found the Hintersteiner See on a sunny, windless day, what will turn the lake’s surface into a perfect mirror reflecting the mountain chain of Wilder Kaiser.
We were even more lucky, since we met the lake in a late winter morning after a freezing night, causing parts of the lake to be covered with a thin ice layer, thus hiding some regions of the perfect deep green-blue mirror, and giving our drone footage a mystical touch.
=====================================
Hintersteiner See is a mountain lake in the Wilder Kaiser national park near Scheffau in Tyrol, not far away from Kufstein.
The 56 hectares wide and 36 meter deep lake has been formed during last ice age and is at a sea level of 883 m.
Underground springs feed the lake with crystal clear water, which is the reason for its clear deep blue-green appearance.
There is a public bathing beach on the lake, which should not be missed by visitors of the Hintersteiner See in summer time.
