Did you know the USA and Russia are much closer than you think? They're only two miles apart; sometimes they're even connected. So, what's the deal? There's the Bering Strait that separates the two countries. Look closer, and you'll find two small islands just 2.4 miles apart. These small islands divide mainland Russia and the USA. One island, called Little Diomede, is part of the USA and is home to a small town called Diomede, with just 82 residents. The other island, Big Diomede, belongs to Russia. In winter, the water freezes, creating an ice bridge between the two countries, allowing you to walk across the border.
