Historically known for taking lives, drones are now emerging as one of the most promising tools for health and emergency services.
In this week's episode of Down to Earth we speak to Alec Momont, founder of Drones for Good. The Belgian engineer has created an ''ambulance drone'' that can reach heart attack victims within precious life-saving minutes.
In Denmark, Europe's emergency services have partnered with the world's largest commercial drone manufacturer to test how thermal technology can be used in fire-fighting and other rescue situations.
But perhaps drones will have the most impact on healthcare in Africa where access to patients is often limited. Rwanda will soon host the world's first drone port dedicated to delivering medical supplies.
