RAF Tempsford 1939-45 - May 2014
During 2014 I took the opportunity of joining a group which for two days explored Britain’s ‘Secret War’ visiting the Military Intelligence Museum, Bletchley Park, RAF Tempsford and USAF Harrington (the latter two were involved in dropping agents and supplies in enemy occupied Europe).
RAF Tempsford was arguably the most secret airfield in Britain during the 1939-45 conflict. From Tempsford flew just under 1000 brave men and women who, as secret agents, faced certain torture and death if they were caught by the Nazi Gestapo. From the time each agent was briefed on his/her mission to the time that they were airborne each agent was blindfolded so that they would never know where they were or where they left from. Here’s a small tribute to those brave souls whose courage is a lesson to us all.
I end the video with analogue footage shot in 1999 at Duxford - I apologise for the lack of stability: my videography was in its infancy!
