Since 2005, Saulos Jali has been a Tour Guide in a large African Slum: Ndirande Township, in Blantyre, Malawi. There’s around 250.000 people that live in Ndirande. Saulos Jali wants to show tourists how the slum dwellers live, work and think. People in slums, Jali tells us, are just ordinary human beings who are making the best of their lives. And a slum, he states, is place that gives a lot of opportunities to poor people. An African Slum is a dynamic and entrepreneurial place, bustling of activity.
In this video, Saulos Jali takes us to Ndirande Market, he introduces us to the car mechanics and coffin makers. At the end of the video he talks about the poverty he once lived in. He reveals how guiding tourists through Ndirande took him out of poverty. Whoever wants to visit Ndirande, guided by Saulos, is invited to contact him by phone on +265.882.825.355 and via email jalisaulos@yahoo.com
