Of the many thousands of pictures of Princess Diana, an image of her with a little Pakistani boy, dying of cancer, was the one she described as her favourite.
It came about when she visited a cancer hospital run by the former Pakistan cricket star Imran Khan, whose wife Jemima was a close friend of Diana.
Imran Khan expressed his shock at the death of Princess Diana, saying she had left a legacy of service to the needy, while patients and doctors at the hospital remembered her kindness and warmth.
The atmosphere at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Treatment Centre in Lahore, Pakistan, was more subdued than usual on Monday - one day after the death of Princess Diana.
Cancer patients learned of her death through newspapers circulated around the centre.
It was here last year that the Princess of Wales first reached out to dozens of children suffering from cancer.
On that particular day, February 22, 1996, a blind boy dying of leukemia caught Diana's attention and that of the photographers.
This photo - published last week in the French daily paper Le Monde - was the princess's favourite.
She said she liked the photograph because it was "true" and because it showed her the way she liked to be seen, caring for the young and suffering.
Diana was saddened to learn that the boy had died shortly after her visit to the hospital
The hospital is run by sporting hero Imran Khan, who founded the centre to care for patients with cancer.
Khan - who has been touring the interior of Punjab - praised Diana's humanitarian efforts.

"I think the world will miss Diana as a humanitarian. I think she would have grown in this role. She had already started this anti-landmine campaign. It was very effective the moment she started campaigning. It gained a huge momentum. I think she would have gone on now, especially as her life was getting more settled. She was going to go on and do more and more work. I think eventually if she had gone on and she had had the opportunity, God knows she could have become another Mother Teresa."

Diana visited the Shaukat Khanum Hospital - named after Imran Khan's mother - for the second time earlier this year in May.
She was accompanied by Khan, her host in Pakistan, and his English wife Jemima.
The visit was part of the hospital's efforts to raise funds, but Diana came under criticism for trying to boost Khan's political standing by supporting his cause.
Khan said he was indebted to her generosity.

"Personally, I am deeply shocked because Diana was a friend, a closer friend of my wife, Jemima. Of what I knew of her in a very short space of time, her death was particularly painful in the view that she has been very kind to me in the context of the cancer hospital."

Patients and staff at the cancer treatment centre have only fond memories of the princess.
Doctor Mustafa Shah escorted Princess Diana on both her visits to the centre and said her presence had boosted everyone's spirits.

"I was at the hospital getting my regular injection, that's when Diana met me. She greeted me with so much love and affection."
