During the presentation, participants will be asked to define coaching based on their experiences and Capacity Building Coaching will be defined. Available research will be presented on several models of coaching including cognitive coaching, literacy coaching, peer coaching, and instructional coaching. Specific research regarding the Capacity Building Coaching training is not yet available; however, the training offered by the ADE draws upon the common characteristics of research-based coaching models and provides a framework for coaching that supports evidence-based practices.
Sandra Laine is currently employed as a Program Specialist in the Exceptional Student Services division of ADE. During her more than 20 years in education, she has had experience as a special education teacher, general education teacher, Teacher-On-Special-Assignment for Special Services, Literacy Coach and school administrator. She has been trained in Literacy Coaching, Cognitive Coaching and Capacity Building Coaching.
Tracey Sridharan is a certified school psychologist currently serving as the Coaching Coordinator in the Exceptional Student Services division of the Arizona Department of Education (ADE). She was trained in Capacity Building Coaching through the ADE and has served as a coach for ADE team trainings since 2007. Ms. Sridharan currently coordinates the Capacity Building Coaching training and recruits and assigns well-qualified coaches with school teams attending ADE team trainings.
