International Anti-Corruption Day 2024, promoted by the United Nations’ Office on Drugs and Crime (“UNODC”), is being held on 9 December 2024. UNODC’s campaign for International Anti-Corruption Day 2024-2025 focuses on the role young African guardians of integrity can play as advocates, raising awareness about corruption and its impacts on their communities.
This video notes that African young people must have access to information if they are to act as anti-corruption advocates. The correlations between levels of corruption, fiscal transparency, press freedom and e-government development across Africa are examined. Deficiencies in fiscal transparency, press freedom and e-government development currently act as information barriers limiting African youth’s ability to raise awareness about corruption.
We provide a possible starting point for youth to employ in raising awareness about corruption by promoting the merits of provided lists of recommended fiscal transparency improvements across Africa. #internationalanticorrruptionday2024 #africa #youth
