Agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa – one of the regions that will be most impacted by climate change and variability – is highly dependent on small-scale farmers. Strengthening their resilience and helping them adapt to increasingly erratic patterns of rainfall intensity, duration and variability requires climate-smart water solutions.
Governments and basin authorities must adopt more integrated planning approaches and develop policies that support competing needs (for agriculture, energy, domestic use and the environment) and strengthen food security, rural employment and stability.
This webinar highlights the work of the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE) in developing promising strategies and solutions which target more productive and integrated approaches to sustainable water use and management. By the end of the webinar, viewers will have a clearer idea of the adaptation/mitigation options available to countries in sub-Saharan Africa as they develop national climate adaptation plans.
