IAF’s Chinook & MI 17 helicopters start rescue operation in Kedarnath
In view of heavy rains in Kedarghati, the IAF’s Chinook and MI17 helicopters on August 02 started the rescue operations in Uttarakhand to evacuate pilgrims stranded on the rain-ravaged trek route to Kedarnath.
IAF Wing Commander Shailesh Singh said, “The weather is not clear due to monsoon season. We launched a sortie in the morning and rescued 15 people. We have inducted 9 NDRF personnel into the Kedarnath helipad. Chinook aircraft had attempted a rescue but due to bad weather, the mission had to be aborted. We are making one more attempt to rescue as the weather is improving. We will continue this keeping in mind the safety of aircraft and the people in mind.”
