Albrecht Durer (1471-1528, German Renaissance artist) is well known for his artwork of Melancholia, and some of his geometric diagrams, particularly how he could construct the Pentagon from the Hexagon using only a compass and set square!.
This involves only 3 same-diameter sized Circles, meaning, without changing the radius of our circle, or setting the radius of the circle to one side of the hexagon and pentagon, we have fulfilled the ancient condition that with only the Compass and Set Square, we can create the Universe, in 3 steps, obeying the Higher Laws of the Trinity.
Firstly construct the Vesica Piscis, 2 circles, passing through one another’s Centre. This Duality is separation from God. Join a line to the 2 heart centres, this is the width of the Mandorla or almond-shape or eye-of-god-shape, This horizontal length, call it 1 unit, is also the radius of the Circle, and a third of the longer horizontal line passing through the horizon of the 2 married circles. Draw the 3rd and final circle so that it touches the 2 centres or either end of the 1 unit line, giving us nearly all the information we need. In the 3rd or lower circle the Hexagon can be drawn. We need 2 more guide-lines that pass thru to the top point of the hexagon, to give us the arms of the Pentagon. We can now draw the Pentagon, observing that all side lengths of both the Hexagon and Pentagon are equal to the radius of the circle being 1 unit.
Upon further examination, should we continue, we can easily determine the Triangle of 3-ness, the Square of 4-ness, and even the Cheop’s Pyramid of Gizeh, when we Square The Circle. The units they used was called the Cubit which comes from the Latin word: “Cubitum” meaning “Elbow”, suggesting that there is a Phi or Golden Proportion in our human form where the Elbow bends at .618 if the length of the whole arm is 1 unit. Interestingly, the 2 bones of the forearm, one is the Ulna, and the other is the Radius, making another connection to Circle Construction and the human form. That is why Geo-Metry means “Earth Measurement”, suggesting a knowledge of the Radius and its Circle.
