In cooperation with the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJPC) and with the support of the British Embassy in Sarajevo, the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the AIRE Centre’s Western Balkans Programme organised the Fourth Annual Conference of the Judicial Forum for Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo on 25 May 2021. This year’s Forum focused on Publicity and Transparency of the Judicial System – European Standards and Practice in BiH.
The Conference rallied representatives of the Constitutional Court of BiH, Court of BiH, the Supreme Courts of the BiH Federation and Republika Srpska, the Appeals Court of Brčko District BiH, the HJPC, the Personal Data Protection Agency in BiH and the chief editors of print and electronic media.
President of the European Court of Human Rights Robert Spano, who addressed the participants via video link, spoke about judicial transparency and the importance of increasing public trust in the judiciary.
President Spano discussed fostering of a better understanding of the functioning of courts in democracies, the importance of transparency in the context of the right to a fair trial, how the Strasbourg Court has responded to publicity challenges by making its hearings available online, and the judiciary and justice in the pandemic era.
