The 8th edition of the Quemao Class at El Quemao in La Santa, Lanzarote, was a spectacular display of skill and thrill, with Joan Duru and Amaury Lavernhe emerging as champions.
This prestigious tube-riding invitational event attracted some of the world's most talented surfers and bodyboarders to the Canary Islands.
Over two days, competitors seized the opportunity to showcase their abilities in extraordinary conditions, surpassing all expectations.
The event was marked by high scores, including Perfect 10s, a testament to the athletes' excellence as they navigated the Spanish reef break's perfect barreling waves, which ranged from 8 to 12 feet.
In a gripping surfing final, Joan Duru, Sam Piter, Aritz Aranburu, and João Mendonça vied for the title. Duru, arguably the standout surfer of the event, clinched the victory, with Piter, Mendonça, and Aranburu following close behind.
"I'm really happy with my result. This is a very special event for me, with one of the best waves in the world and all the competitors giving their best," expressed Duru.
"This wave is very hard and powerful, but it's perfect. I've been invited to compete before, and that has helped me understand the wave and know how to deal with it."
"It's really a dream - it forms a perfect tube."
