This isn't a formal review of the Sony FDR-AX53 Handycam, but, rather, a chance for you to see what the camera can do and decide for yourself if it's right for you.
I can tell you I've really enjoyed using AX53 to record videos of the Ft. Lauderdale Air Show and to shoot this video of rookeries loaded with an amazing assortment of nesting birds and their chicks -- along with alligators -- at Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, Florida. To shoot this video, I set the camera to HD 1080p, instead of 4k. My computer would have a heart attack if I tried to edit 10 minutes of mega high resolution on it.
The BOSS image stabilization and 20x zoom on the AX53 make every shot smooth as silk. And I'm very pleased with the overall results. The only challenge I've ever had is that a shot can be blurry if the camera's zoomed in too far when I start shooting. The quick fix is to zoom out a little and let the focus mechanism do its work before zooming in again.
You can get the technical specs elsewhere, but watch this video to see trimmed but otherwise unedited video from a Sony FDR-AX53 used under mostly cloudy conditions. Watch my Fort Lauderdale Air Show video here [ Ссылка ] to see the AX53 in action in perfect conditions.
I hope one day to try the BOSS stabilization system in a Sony A7RII mirrorless camera. As a Sony Nex-7 user, I'd imagine it absolutely rocks! (If anyone has an extra one, feel free to throw it my way. Bwah!) Enjoy!
