The Kevin Stefanski-led Cleveland Browns are yet again one of the most penalized teams in the NFL. This season isn't the first of that to happen for the Browns. UCSS discusses who holds more blame for the penalties, the players or the coaches.
Fifteen weeks into football season, the Browns can’t play by league rules. Presumably, they spend all offseason preaching the NFL’s basic principles, then practicing its proper techniques. But when it’s time to perform, they don’t even align correctly.
Cleveland committed six more accepted penalties during Sunday’s 21-7 loss to the Chiefs, five of which (four accepted) occurred before the snap and a few of which — offensive offsides, illegal formation (on a punt) and ineligible man downfield (again, on a punt) — most fanbases never witness. Coach Kevin Stefanski’s team ranks 28th in penalties per game (7.4) and last in pre-snap fouls (56, eight more than second place) this season, two rare 2024 blemishes that Cleveland cannot hide behind Deshaun Watson’s massive contract.
