Police are appealing for witnesses after an aggravated burglary in Middleton.
3 offenders burgled the property on Boardman Fold Road at 21:45hrs on Friday 22nd May 2020. They were armed with an axe and also carrying cable ties.
A Man and Woman both in their 30s were inside at the time of the incident along with their 3 year old child who was fast asleep in bed. The parents had to wake the child and quickly remove her to the safety of their bedroom where they barricaded themselves into the room and dialled 999. Thankfully the man was able to keep the bedroom door closed despite the offender’s efforts to gain access to the room; he was left bruised and with injuries to his hands due to the force he had to use to keep the door closed for the 3 minutes the offenders were inside. The offenders made off via gardens at the rear of the address onto Pebworth Close and then went onto Mossway. They left in the same Blue BMW 1 series M140 that they had arrived in.
DC Melanie Jeffery from Rochdale CID says “This is horrific incident which has left a young family understandably traumatised. The child has been constantly talking of the ‘bad men’ who came into their house. Nobody should be made to feel unsafe in their own home, especially a child and I dread to think what events might have unfolded had it not been for the quick thinking and actions of the victims”.
