(1 May 2017) Clashes erupted in Caracas on Monday as a May Day rally by anti-government protesters turned violent, with security forces firing teargas as defiant demonstrators sought shelter behind their protest placards and trees.
Venezuelans from both sides of the political divide had taken to the streets as the intensifying protest movement opposing President Nicolas Maduro entered its second month.
