I was very excited to try out this canned brown bread from B & M. There must be something special about this bread that B & M still continues to produce, along with their baked beans. But I really didn’t know what to expect. This brown bread is a New England tradition. I read it’s typically eaten warmed up by steaming or toasting, topped with butter. Some eat them topped with baked beans or with a side of hotdogs. B & M brown bread is made from wheat and rye flour, plus some cornmeal. The distinct brown color can be attributed to the use of molasses. So how is this bread from a can?

► Falling in Love with Canned Bread (B&M's Brown Bread)
What You’ll Need:
1 16 oz can of B & M Brown Bread
Butter
Directions:
Using a can opener, open the top and bottom lids of the can of B & M Brown Bread. Detach lids completely and with care. Shake the can to release the loaf of bread. Slice the bread using a bread knife, about half an inch thick.
Toast the brown bread slices using an oven toaster at 350F for about 5 minutes. Place the toasted brown bread slices on a plate and top with a knob of butter. Serve immediately.
► Tips
Only slice the amount that you’ll be consuming. I placed the rest of the bread in an airtight container in the refrigerator and they were still great when I sliced and toasted them the next day.
► Verdict
I’m in love with this brown bread! This reminds me so much of Kavring, a Swedish dark rye “quick” bread. They are similarly sweet, dense and moist. You can taste the dark caramel flavor brought by the molasses. The butter compliments the bread perfectly. I will not hesitate to give this canned brown bread a try again!
