Some ringing on this rather difficult six in Canterbury. St Alphege's Church is an ancient foundation, having been founded in around 1030, and then rebuilt by the Normans after the Conquest. The church was declared redundant in 1982 and sat unused for a while. More recently it has become the uniform shop for the King's School (founded in 597, making it the oldest school in the world) with the ringing chamber becoming an office!
The bells themselves are a hotchpot of founders, hung in a wooden tower/belfry thing on top of the stone base. The go is not great - they have a tendency to jump about and drop and go over, making good ringing on these quite difficult to achieve. Still, I like them!
