The public procurement sector is particularly vulnerable to corruption which leads to profound negative consequences as it hampers development and disproportionally affects the most vulnerable in society. Every dollar lost to corruption in public procurement is a dollar that could have been invested in schools, hospitals, or infrastructure.
Strong oversight bodies, stringent anti-corruption laws, accountability and enhanced private sector compliance ensure vast amounts of resources reach qualified beneficiaries.
Ensuring transparent and accountable public procurement processes is crucial for prosperity, encouraging countries of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) to work hand-in-hand to eliminate corruption, promote fair competition, and harness the full potential of their economies.
