By 1984 there were 16 registered political parties in Canada. The Rhinos were fourth largest, outpolling even mainstream Conservatives and New Democrats in several ridings, primarily in Québec.
In 1993, the combined Liberals, Conservatives and New Democrats, engineered several changes to the Canada Elections Act designed to remove the Rhinos and other lesser known parties from the political scene. The Rhinos countered with a ill-fated, fun-filled 'Rhinobellion' to try and restore democracy to the Canadas (Upper and Downer) but it was doomed from the start. Many of the changes to the Election Act were later found to be unconstitional, but at 14:35 hrs, (EST), September 23, 1993, Canada's Chief Electoral Officer ordered the removal of the Parti Rhinocéros from the Canadian political system.
Most of the party's 125,000 members - now exiled after 40 fun-filled years freely frolicking throughout Canada's vast political wilderness -- eventually found sanctuary in Québec's secessionist movement where they languish to this day.
The party 'Concierge' and chief architect of the failed '93 Rhinobellion -- seen here in this video -- purposely committed over 50 violations of the Elections Act in an effort to plead the Rhino's case before the courts, but Ottawa refused to lay charges, making Charlie McKenzie, by default, Canada's 'Most Least-Wanted,' a title he proudly wears to this day . . .
