Biggest real estate scams & lies in 2019:

0:45 - 1. Wire fraud. Hackers are out there and will pretend to be the settlement company. Whenever you wire money, be sure you are on the phone with the person on the other end of the wire.

3:18 - 2. Guaranteed home sale. Agents that promise they will buy your home if it doesn't sell in a certain time frame. This is boarderline bait-and-switch because sellers will never agree to the low price that the agent would 'buy' your home for. It's a gimmick and not realistic. It is simply a lead generation tool to sell you on their standard listing agreement.

5:53 - 3. Discount brokerages provide the same value as standard brokers. You simply do not get the same level of marketing and service when you pay less money.

9:52 - 4. Home valuation inflation. When an agent is trying to list your home and tells you your home is worth a lot more than other agents. Agents will try to give you the warm and fuzzies by telling you your home is worth more than the market value.

13:10 - 5. Your home is perfect. Agents that say you don't need to do anything to get your home ready for the market. Things like removing furniture, changing light fixtures and paint are the big items that usually need to be done. Unless you live in a brand new home, it's most likely that your home is not perfect and that you should think about doing some upgrades before you go on the market.
