In this lesson, students explore the five food groups—dairy, fruit, vegetables, grains and protein—and learn about the role each food group plays in supporting good health. Students learn how to identify the five food groups, classify foods by food group, and identify foods that are “extras” and explain why they are. Taught in a fun, interactive format, students will learn how to make healthy food choices that help the body learn, grow and play!
Aligned with MyPlate and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, eating the daily recommended servings of high quality, wholesome foods from all five food groups help to ensure children are well-nourished for optimal growth and development, as well as for learning.
