(30 Jul 2017) Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, along with his running mate and Deputy President William Ruto, attended an open air Mass on Sunday ahead of next week's presidential election.
The two leaders called on their supporters to join them for prayers in Uhuru Park in the capital, Nairobi to pray for peace ahead of the vote which is expected to be a tight race against opposition leader and presidential aspirant Raila Odinga.
Public opinion polls have shown the race tightening in recent weeks.
There are widespread concerns that there may be an outbreak of political violence.
Kenya experienced arguably its worst episode of violence 10 years ago after a December 2007 presidential election that international observers said was flawed.
More than 1,000 people died and 600,000 were evicted from their homes.
