President Benigno S. Aquino III received Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Amanda Louise Gorely in a courtesy call at the Music Room in Malacañan Palace.
Ambassador Gorely was appointed as Australia’s envoy to the Philippines in January 2016. She has been actively involved in the Philippine-Australian Comprehensive Partnership that was jointly signed by the two economies during the Philippines’ hosting of the APEC Leaders’ Summit in November 2015.
In May 2016, the Philippines and Australia celebrated its 70th anniversary of bilateral relations, capping off last year’s two-way trade with $3.43 billion. The new partnership is focused on bringing trade, investment and development assistance initiatives between the two countries.
Joining her delegation were Acting Deputy Head of Mission Dr. Robyn Biti, Defense Attaché, Political and Public Affairs Counsellor Richard Rodgers and Economic Counsellor Daniel Featherston.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Secretary Jose Rene Almendras, Office of Asia and Pacific Affairs (ASPAC) Assistant Secretary Millicent Cruz-Paredes and ASPAC Director Princess Tomas-Tayao joined the President.
