In Industries,3 Wire RTD is most popular for Temperature Measurement.
Lead wire compensation can be done with help of 3 Wire RTD.
In simple terms, the wheat stone bridge equation is as follows.
(R1/R2) = (RT + Rlead)/(R3 + Rlead)
As you can see from above equation, numerator and denominator both have Rlead, and because of this right hand side ratio does not get affected due to lead resistance.
However, both lead wires should have equal length to avoid lead resistance effect.
In other words, we need to consider length of lead wires.

When Bridge is Balance Condition:
RT + Rlead = R3 + Rlead
RT = R3

As you can see from this equation, In 3 wire RTD, lead resistance will be canceled each other with help of a third lead wire.
Therefore, the temperature measurement does not get affected due to lead resistance.
However, great care need to be taken to choose equal length of lead wires.
In other words, lead wire compensation accuracy depends on the length of lead wires.
